Dr. Constance Barone—a Board Certified plastic surgeon with a thriving practice in San Antonio, Texas—recently sat down with us to explain what differentiates the IDEAL IMPLANT from silicone gel implants. Dr. Barone’s expert opinion is based on decades of breast augmentation experience and excellence that includes recognition as a Top Doctor by Castle Connolly, induction into the San Antonio Business Hall of Fame, and many more accolades.
In her opinion, the most significant advantage of the IDEAL IMPLANT is that it offers a natural look and feel without the risks of “silent rupture.” Silent rupture is a condition specific to silicone gel breast implants where the implant ruptures and begins to leak silicone gel, but the patient does not know it has ruptured. The term “silent” is used to describe the condition because the silicone gel usually leaks very slowly and typically goes undetected by the patient and surgeon until an MRI scan is performed or the implant is removed.
“When the silicone gel migrates outside the capsule, it can make its way to the lymph nodes, lungs, liver or other organs,” Dr. Barone clarifies.

Is it any wonder that nearly 75 percent of women in a recent independent survey said they would be “very” or “constantly” concerned about “silent” or unknown ruptures of silicone gel breast implants?
Dr. Barone explains that one of the key benefits of IDEAL IMPLANTS is that they are filled with saline not silicone gel. “In the event of a rupture—which is extremely rare with IDEAL IMPLANT—any saline that leaks from the implant is harmlessly absorbed into the body. It is by far the safer implant alternative.”
Another significant advantage of IDEAL IMPLANT that shouldn’t be overlooked is time and money. With silicone gel implants, women are advised by the FDA to get an MRI three years after the procedure and every two years thereafter. “Guess what?” Dr. Barone asserts. “Women don’t do it because MRIs are time-consuming and expensive…and most of those costs are not covered by insurance.”
Silicone gel implants are also supposed to be replaced every 10 years. “Again, this requires additional time and money,” Dr. Barone explains. “When you consider that there are no silicone gel safety issues with IDEAL IMPLANT, it’s not surprising that the FDA has no such requirements for the product.”
But what about the look and feel of the IDEAL IMPLANT? Isn’t saline less attractive than silicone? In the past, the biggest complaint against saline implants was that they just didn’t look and feel real—and were far inferior to silicone gel in that regard. “But that’s no longer true,” Dr. Barone emphasizes. “In fact, IDEAL IMPLANT—in my opinion—is the closest thing to real breasts that you can find.”
When we asked Dr. Barone about the actual procedure, she was quick to point out that IDEAL IMPLANT requires a smaller incision than silicone gel implants and are easier to insert and remove.
With improved safety, decreased long-term costs, less hassle, and realistic look and feel, it sounds like IDEAL IMPLANT was appropriately named.
