Brazilian Butt Lift Or Buttock Implants – Know Your Options And Your Doctor To Ensure The Best Results
Shape and proportion. These attributes are hallmarks of attractive buttocks. But genetics doesn’t always deliver the desired shape or the proper proportion. That likely explains the growing popularity of two buttock augmentation procedures—the Brazilian Butt Lift and buttock implants.
To better understand the procedures, as well as the ever-important patient safety, we recently sat down with Dr. Rikesh Parikh, a Seattle Met Magazine top doctor who performs successful buttock augmentation procedures from his thriving Seattle practice.
“Buttock augmentation is a wonderful way to accentuate a patient’s natural curves,” Dr. Parikh explains. “It’s not only about gaining size but also creating a more shapely contour that can bring more confidence, too.”
He addressed the more common fat transfer method (also known as a Brazilian Butt Lift) first. “This procedure utilizes liposuction to harvest fat from a different area of the body and then transfer it to the buttock area,” Dr. Parikh explains. Typically, the fat is taken from these common areas: abdomen, back, or thighs.
After the fat has been harvested and purified, it is injected into the buttock area. “An experienced surgeon will understand how and where to inject the fat to create the ideal look and feel,” Dr. Parikh explains.
Still, not all patients are ideal candidates for a Brazilian Butt Lift. “Many patients are too lean,” Dr. Parikh explains. “They simply don’t have enough fat to harvest and transfer.” In those cases, Dr. Parikh says buttock implants are an excellent alternative.
Solid silicone implants—which are different than softer silicone gel implants used for breasts—are a wonderful way to create a beautifully contoured backside, Dr. Parikh says. Interestingly, because the implants are made of a firm material (and come in a variety of sizes) they be tailored to the individual’s desired shape.
“Buttock augmentation is a wonderful way to accentuate a patient’s natural curves,” Dr. Parikh explains. “It’s not only about gaining size but also creating a more shapely contour that can bring more confidence, too.”
As for the actual procedure, Dr. Parikh explains that the implants are placed within the gluteal muscle to create a “pocket” that allows the implants to look more natural and help maintain their position. “Patients without the proper amount of fat have seen excellent results with implants,” Dr. Parikh says.
Knowing the complexity of the procedures and that patient wellbeing is a primary concern, Dr. Parikh believes it is critical for patients to focus on finding a surgeon who can perform the surgery safely and successfully. “Patients will want to work with a highly-skilled surgeon who not only has an eye for aesthetics, but has the education, training and experience in these specific procedures,” he asserts.
The fact of the matter is that not all doctors have specialized training in these techniques. To that point, Dr. Parikh encourages patients to get answers to these specific questions:
How many Brazilian Butt Lifts or buttock implant procedures has the doctor performed?
What is the doctor’s success rate with these procedures?
What is the doctor’s specialty? A doctor who specializes in nose jobs, for example, might not be an ideal choice to perform buttock augmentation.
Is the doctor a board-certified plastic surgeon? Board certification helps ensure the doctor’s education and experience have been thoroughly evaluated by an independent source. Dr. Parikh is double board-certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and The American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Parikh says it is also helpful to seek out patient testimonials, as well as before-and-after photos of the doctor’s work. This helps ensure that your aesthetic goals are in sync with the surgeon’s aesthetic eye.
“In the hands of a skilled surgeon, buttock augmentation procedures can achieve high patient satisfaction through remarkably natural looking and feeling results,” Dr. Parikh concludes.
